Understandably, many life-long residents of the area fear that the project would change the character of the surrounding neighborhoods. Their parents or grandparents worked hard to buy homes in Glen Oaks Village or Hollis Hills: this new plan feels like a threat to their legacy.

More than 100 repairs have been made in several district 23 schools. The total repairs by the end of this year will total to 168. It's part of $10 million from the city to make the changes. At P.S. 137 in Brownsville, the library received new flooring. Other fixes throughout the district include staircases, outdoor space and more. Students and families rallied together with the help of the East Brooklyn Congregations to get the changes made.  "Some people may think they're little things but when you add all of them up you show our young people that we care about them.
